Karate is a fun and exciting sport. Not only is it exuberating on in the training hall, but it can be a very effective means of personal protection. The sport, like most other sports, uses a uniform during training times. This uniform is made up of a shirt and a pair of pants. While most individuals will train in a white uniform with a colored sash to indicate their level, those at the higher levels may have a black uniform which includes a black shirt and black karate pants with a black belt. These individuals are known as black belts, showing that they have trained for a length of time and are seen as being knowledgeable in the sport.



The karate uniform can be very warm to train in. The shirt typically has long sleeves and the pants are always long. This encourages the student of the sport to sweat considerably. In addition, the training can include floor training, forcing a student to crawl or roll on the floor, soiling the uniform. These uniforms must be cleaned after each class session in order for the student to retain a clean appearance and keep the uniform in good condition. The belt should only be hand washed, never thrown in a washing machine. The machine can easily damage the belt, even in a delicate cycle.

Cleaning a white karate uniform is a fairly easy task. The uniform should be washed in warm water with detergent and bleach. The detergent will assist with the breaking down of dirt particles while the bleach is used to remove sweat and oils that were excreted by the body. The bleach will also allow the uniform to become bright and white again, looking much like a new uniform. These uniforms are supposed to be stiff, so the use of softener is not recommended. Use a machine clothes dryer on delicate to dry the uniform. If a higher setting is used, the material may burn.
